Roman Neustadter s spot in Russia s Euro 2016 squad can be locked in after the Schalke midfielder gained citizenship on Wednesday.
Neustadter was included in Leonid Slutsky s 23-man party for the tournament in France, having committed his international future to Russia despite earning two Germany caps in 2012 and 2013.
Slutsky was forced into a change of his initial squad when an ankle injury forced Alan Dzagoev out of the tournament, but any concerns over Neustadter s status were quelled when his documents were processed this week.

Kellyn Acosta says the Chicago Fire need to be more precise with their ball progression if they are to end their barren run and begin to climb the MLS standings.
Frank Klopas team sit 12th in the Eastern Conference and have failed to win – or even find the net – in three matches ahead of Saturday s clash with the New England Revolution.
Chicago scored nine goals in their first five MLS matches in 2024 but have since netted two in their last five, and midfielder Acosta says composure is the key to improving their attacking output.
It s a combination of moving the ball back to front and finding our forwards, Acosta said.
I feel like we ve got to get them the ball in dangerous areas where they are bringing out their qualities, and I think we have not…
Nicolas Kuhn s late winner helped Celtic maintain their perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season with a narrow 2-1 victory over Ross County.
Brendan Rodgers side, who lost 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek, struck twice in the final quarter of an hour at the Global Energy Stadium, where Ronan Hale s first-half penalty had given the hosts the lead.
Hale drilled home from 12 yards at the second attempt after his initial spot-kick was denied by Kasper Schmeichel, who was penalised for creeping off his line.
It was the first league goal Celtic had conceded this season, but the Hoops turned things around late on.
They equalised in the 76th minute when Callum McGregor s goalbound strike was turned in from close range by Alistai…
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has thrown his support behind the 2022 World Cup in Qatar being staged in January rather than June-July.
Summer temperatures in Qatar can soar above 40 degrees while the winter months can be almost half that.
Blatter, speaking in Doha ahead of the opening match of the Asian Cup, said: I expect it will be held in the winter.
We have time to look at this question, it is still 11 years away but we must decide the most adequate period for a successful World Cup which means January or the end of the year.
Blatter said that the Qatari Football Association is now responsible for organising the World Cup and they would work closely with FIFA in the years ahead to guarantee a successful tournament.

Neymar and Gabriel Jesus inspired Brazil as they beat Honduras 6-0 to reach the final of the Rio 2016 men s football tournament, with Rogerio Micale s men now just one win away from the country s first-ever gold medal in the sport.
The hosts endured a difficult start to the tournament as they were held to goalless draws by South Africa and Iraq, but have been firing on all cylinders ever since seeing off Denmark and Colombia and they were once more in impressive form on Wednesday.
Neymar needed only 15 seconds to give Brazil the lead with the fastest goal in Olympic history, pouncing on an error from Johnny Palacios before beating goalkeeper Luis Lopez thanks to a touch of fortune.
The Barcelona attacker landed awkwardly after his goal and there were fears…
Arda Turan ended Switzerland s interest in Euro 2008 in heartbreaking fashion as a last-minute breakaway goal gave Turkey a 2-1 win here on Wednesday.
Just as it seemed the co-hosts had done enough to stay alive in the competition, the midfielder broke clear on the left, cut inside and beat goalkeeper Diego Benaglio from the edge of the area with the help of a cruel deflection off the boot of centreback Patrick Muller.
It was harsh on the Swiss but they had only themselves to blame having squandered the chances to kill off the Turks long before the dramatic denouement.
Hakan Yakin, one of three players in the Swiss side with family roots in Turkey, had given Jakob Kuhn s side a first-half lead in treacherous conditions.
But the veteran playmaker also…
